Loving those drugs - come to me...
@ Wednesday, Mar. 08, 2006 - 07:43:44 pmSo here I am in Kings College having a tiny little syringe of drugs pumped in at 2ml an hour for 24 hours a day for at least the next 2 weeks !Although I checked in yesterday am, the chemo only got up and running this afternoon. I was getting a bit anxious, but now we’re off. The idea is that this drug builds up slowly in your system and cuts back those blasts so I’m ready for transplant.
It feels a bit weird being in a different hospital, different bed, different nurses doctors etc, so now to build new relationships I guess.
I’m in the private wing this time , so are the beds softer, the nurses smilier, toilets cleaner or the food better……..?
Well I do have nice big patio doors and of course a balcony ( Ken !), the beds are all the same really – mattresses particularly nasty , making you hot and sweaty. The nurses vary in smiliness ( is there such a word?) and the toilets are cleaner. The food is reasonable but I was amused to discover that the menu is the same at lunch and dinner every day ! Mmmm!
Ths doctors are just as young just as bright various degrees of gorgeousness and they're all part of the same team that'll see me through the transplant so that has to be a bonus for continuity.
I do have a phone line and of course can use my mobile without being frowned upon but best of all I can use the phone line to dial up the internet.!!! I’m not sure the speed I’ve got will allow me to upload too many interesting photos but I’ll be bloggin on………….
The ward is apparently full of Greeks, ( as confirmed by the 2 greek channels on television ) they are all here having liver transplants - too much ouzo . The Greek men sit down in the visitors area in their dressing gowns and the wives are to be seen tidying the rooms and straightening the fold out beds they are sleeping on. So Sandy if you feel like coming over and being a Greek wife for me – you know what to do. ( Wicked wicked wicked woman – deliberately mentioning you to get a response!)
Did you all see the HUGE crater they found in the western desert in Egypt ?
Have you got the GPS points for that Peter ? And is it on any of our sat images??
Pretty cool.
Sandy have you got any Desert Glass or are you off out this weekend to get some?
here's a link

Boys are on leave out this weekend so Russ is going to pick them up . He’ll go up tomorrow to go to an ‘A’ level fair with Ross and then bring them down on Friday afternoon. It’ll be nice to see them even though I’m in here – I have sky sports so that may make their visits longer !! Not quite as boring as just chatting with me !
Been to rock bottom and know that the climb is still precarious but feeling fit and ready……
I can't remember ever wanting anything more.....
So that’s it then.
Here I am a slave to day time television.
What have you all been up to?
Love and Love and Love

hey Mo - have just arrived home with a Sainsbury's Thai meal (completely overlooking the fact that I'm out at the Royal Thai tomorrow, duh!) and Jim away in London. A night of wine, food, liquorice and Desperate Housewives methinks. I had hoped to be at Broom Croft exfoliating, toe nail painting and lip'n'chin waxing mum before she swans 'dan saff' to the Titford Golden wedding extravaganza but she (mum) is entertaining tonight so I'll have to try and fit her in on Friday! At least I did manage to actually speak with her today instead of that stupid woman who usually answers with her "hello, we're not here" guff. Anyway, good to talk with you yesterday at last and to read the blog update - you sound really well up for it - of course there's nothing else for it but you know what I mean. A slow drip feed sounds interesting - you mean slower than your usual consumption of sauv blanc or other Egyptian liquour? A full week in UK for me this week so that's great - apart from Jim being in London (wining and dining Claire tomorrow!!! I think you should make them visit you with a take-away at the least). In a moment of madness I think I've offered to look after Kalli and Kristi for 2 nights soon so that Lou can visit you with Ali?!!! Oh well and then I intend coming down on the night of 27th March - having Tuesday off to visit with you - Wed and Thurs work and then Friday off with you again, going home Saturday morning. Must try and fit in an eyebrow wax at Harrods - that threading woman is wonderful! Oh that's the bell on my red chicken curry so must go for it - sorry to hear the excitement over the menu was so short lived, never mind, I'm sure Mum will keep you supplied with good home cooking for the next few weeks. Lots of love and big hugs to you and to Russell - Jane xxxxxxxxx

Hi there. Yet again we were talking about you last night! Book Club! We were at Trishs' house and had a very quick chat about a very light book. Are you reading at all? Maybe you could start a book club in the hospital! And what about the quilts? I expect you are covered in all kinds of creations! Just joking, I am also lagging way behind the others (I will get thrown out soon I feel). Just can't get organised yet.
Snow disappearing now, and spring flowers trying desperately hard to get through.
Take care, Sue xx

Hi Moira, loved the reaction that photo got.....most appropriate for the occasion don't you think?
Burp....tee hee ..... as Mrs M would say.
Great that you have settled in and are watching that day time TV!!! Let me know if there is anything good on Sky...the Extreme Makeovers are watchable....I suppose you are doing that really but more discreetly......just on the inside!
Going off to Moon Beach tomorrow for the opening weekend .... don't get too jealous Russ!
Keep up your spirits...and platelets. Love Lisa

Hey babe - must get better at scanning e-mails - all I picked up the first time was 'nice big potatoes' and 'lots of geeks'...could it be because we had mince 'n tatties for tea and I've got a house full of teenage geeks...
Tom not so geeky today as the home computer internet doesn't work since we got struck by lightening last Friday!!! Yikes - glad I wasn't in the house - but not sure how to fix it now - at least the wireless works!
Finally got back from London last night at 11pm...bummer flight delays etc etc...great to drop in on you before you went into battle with the blast-ended scroots. I'm backing the hobgoblins - how can you lose with big potatoes and geeks are on your side!
Keep with the knitting and quilting...
Big love R

Hi Mo, I'm having another go at keeping up
with all the blogites. I'm not very good at the witty quips, etc., much prefer the old fashioned letters, but they take a little longer. Ann and John Newberry have just left - they're in Torphins for a few days from Sussex. It was good to see them and they send their love to you. We were reminiscing about New Years Eve 20 years ago that we all spent with them - do you remember? Glad to hear you are settled in at Kings and have all the "mod.cons." you need. Sounds as though Jane has me lined up to do some cooking - what do you fancy?
Did my card arrive? Can't you almost smell that blossom? I know I won't make the poet laureate but hope you got the message. Always thinking of you darling, with lots of love and kisses, Mum xxxxxxxx

I really am crap at this blog thing. I never think that I have anything funny to say - I guess I should do it with a few glasses of wine in me - I'm always much funnier then! (or so I think!)Do the Greeks all watch re runs of Shirley Valentine and My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Kevin is in London for a week somewhere then on to Australia. I am at home with the kids and crazy dogs trying to pack as we are moving house again (a whole 10 blocks away!)Glad you are on the up again -
You Go Girl! (as the Americans say!) Actually I bought Lulu a t shirt that says the verys ame thing but also says 'and don't come back'! Just the thing for those Hobgoblins or whatever.
Much love, Avril x

Miss you !
Can't believe you are on the move again. Should I ask why ?
Kevin bought more art or is it the wine storage I'm sure he must be bringing crates in from OZ?
Like the T-shirt, save it for me !
Have you still got Daisy ? she wasn't a labradoodle by any chance was she ? Or have I really lost it?
Do you remember taking her to that pet carrier place in Anchorage, did I then drop you at airport ? Crazy how time flies - come see me next time you're back in blighty!

Ward full of geeks? great. Or was it Greeks? even more great. I think I am on Rosywood wavelength.
My life is full of roses compared to yours - but am I allowed to complain? Well ...... if I go into another store and the 'kind and helpful?' assistants say ' did you find everything OK' one more time... I shall ...... either scream or have another bottle of wine.... which shall it be..... oh go on then.... a bottle of wine.
By way of explanation and also to give you something else to read other than a book..... gone are the days of 'hi and how are you today' only,.... yep they have added more, at the checkout in every supermarket, store of any kind, everyone asks, 'did you find everything OK' well of course I did or I wouldn't be checking out would I? Doh.
OK insight into my life in Bako ..... shopping.
See ya hon.

Judy from Bakersfield - Cal I Fornia,,, glad you can reach for the wine my dear, seems like that might be the only thing keeping you sane.
Are you rug making again ?
Reminiscing about Goukstyle ?
those were the days when all we had to worry about was if they fell in the burn or the shetland pony kicked them...........
Ahh nice to know you're shouting for me.

You are a wicked woman, have to get one of those young, gorgeous doctors to smack your bottom! Ok so you finally got me to make a comment, too shy up to now, you have too many, up to speed, witty friends. Hey I didn't understand a thing about that whale going past your window - I got it a few days later. Anyway now for something I know about - Greeks and the desert. You'll have to be practicing your "kali mera's" and "kali spera's" now, and always have a bottle of Windex handy - cleans and cures all!!! And don't mention the Turks!! Found a picture on Stephs camera of you and me in the hammocks, sleeping after we'd been sampling those greek wines to bring back to Egypt! Dribbling is the word that comes to mind! I am very excited about that crater. You are a font of information. I forwarded the web page to Peter Gaballa, could be a good trip darling and I'm not going without you!! I printed out the sat map from the website and I'm going to have a look for it on Ozi Explorer. But I found a man in Cairo in a jewellers who been out and collected the silica glass, he had a big bag of assorted bits. It was the strangest stuff, green and glassy.I guess this huge crater really explains how it was made. Maybe even why the Nile is where it is now!!!! Stranger and stranger. Hey that was a great map Russell gave us. Real art. See now you've got me going I can't stop...Loads of hugs and kisses. Hope you enjoyed those little sparkly beads, found them in a very obscure corner of the khan. you sound good, keep on climbing and keep on wanting....xxxxx Sandy

Where would you be without me!!
It's so nice to hear from you! Glad i've got you excited. The maps are wonderful haven't had mine framed yet but really must so i can gaze at it again.
Hope you are all well, missing you all and cairo.....

Did i get it wrong? Was it Geeks rather than Greeks?! Typical!
You most certainly were not wrong re the Daisy being a Labradoodle nor indeed the run to the Airport to dispose of said dog to Houston. We have a chocolate brown labradoodle puppy from Oz, called Archie. Kevin thought Daisy would like a sibling! So now we have to move to a house with a bigger garden for the dogs! Well it was either that or damn, we had to paint the house! I am noticing in all these blogs there is rather a lot of talk of wine drinking - do you have to commit to a certain amount per week to be part of this Blog Society? I feel I am up for the challenge!
A xx

Avril,
thats hilarious, Karen my friend who blogs and lives in Vienna has been thinking of getting a labradoodle - shall I fill her in about Daisy ?
I don't think she'll go as far as OZ for one though but hey nice excuse for a holiday.
Wine drinking as you know is obligatory, closely followed by tequila through long tubes ( see previous photo on post)and then of course there's Kevins Margaritas........
Challenge is on my dear for the summer i think though, see previous posts for drinking in the dordogne or you could join the ski trip ( memories of Alaska) and follow Karens complete 1,2 3 ski which is snow plough, gluhwein, parallel.
By the way Lynda/Craigveigh who blogs here is the Lynda Macinnes( that is right isn't it ???) in the year above you at school. I know we've had that conversation before but.......
You know you're going to have to paint the house anyway and I distinctly remember Kevins very particular taste in colours tell him off white and spongeable is ok with the dogs.........
Love M
