Day +26 Blood Counts Up, Kidneys Down.........

by moira603 @ Monday, May. 15, 2006 - 07:30:16 am

Russell here,

Moira is not able to provide an update, but she would want you all to know what is happening, briefly.......

Our first good news in ages came last Thursday morning, blood counts are recovering, early days, but we have to take as a big positive.

Unfortunately Moira's kidneys shut down on Thursday, a known risk from her treatment - having to process all the toxins resulting from the TBI+Chemo+Antibiotics+other drugs. The hospital teams are working hard to restart her kidneys, lots of fluids and a decision on dialysis later today.

The family are gathered, and she has been able to see the boys.

Moira is a fighter and with all the support from family, friends, and doctors she WILL get thru this.

Great news about the blood counts. Hopefully kidneys will restart soon. Sending you lots of positive energy, Moira, and hoping it won't be long before you're blogging for yourself.

PS...I also meant to say.........

I read all the latest blog comments to Moira yesterday. She was able to acknowledge them all and smiled at the poems and humour etc.

So keep them coming as they all make a difference in helping sustain Moira, and me plus the rest of the family.

Dear Russell,
Although I don’t know you, I want you to know that I appreciate what a very difficult time this is particularly for you and your children. My thoughts are with you as much as with Moira. I know you’re doing everything to keep her spirits up. I hope very much that the worst is over soon, and that she is on her way to complete recovery.
Warmest Regards,

Glad to hear that the counts have started to come up. Finished at Woolwich on Friday - got nice card and pressies etc. Tell those kidneys they'd better sort it out otherwise they'll be trouble from Ihab and myself!! Glad to hear about the counts - should help the mouth start to feel better once those boys start whipping round doing good. All my love and thoughts to you all - channelling those good vibes to you and good cells!! Lots of love Emma

Dear Mo and Russ
Typical of American cells to take their time to join in the fight - but wow will they be worth the wait! Hope those kidneys start playing the game too - having a rest is all well and good - but we are all expecting a team effort here! Seriously hoping you are improving by the day - we are missing you and Pimms season is galloping up on us fast. Mike is desperate for you to join us down in Devon - with some treks across the moors on the agenda! (You have been warned!)
Thinking of you all as always and good luck to Ross for his GCSE's Tegan has started hers (French oral and Drama Performance) and is on study leave now - or is that also known as msn messenger time!
Love you guys - see you soon, Sarah xxxx

Dear Moira and Russell

You don't know me, but probably have heard my name mentioned through your Dad, Moira. Your father and my father are cousins (Kenneth Stuart)from Canada. My parents told me about your battle with leukemia, and recently had emailed me your blog. I have read from start to finish and check daily to see if you had made an entry. You are an amazing person, I am your age and also have three boys myself. I couldn't imagine going through what you and your family have had to face over the past nine months. You have inspired me to live each and every day to the fullest. I just want you to know there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you and your family.

Dearest Mo (Boy Wonder and Nursey),

Every breath I take seeks to replace your pain with light.
Extra breaths today as I cycled to work (86.5 to go)... Feels like it may even be getting easier! So I’ll take that as a sign that things WILL start getting easier for you too...

Moira,

Great news about the blood cells. This is a good sign now the cells need to communicate with your kidneys. While you are sleeping think of kidney things, water/ice cubes or a nice cool glass of white wine (that will do it).
I know you are in great company while sleeping and fighting. I am sending thoughts, vibes, waves, prayers and hugs. Lots of love JustXXXXX

Hi Moira

As an ex-dialysis nurse, I can at least try to reassure you that it is possible for kidneys to spontaniously start functioning again, for someone in your situation.

That said - renal failure isn't fun. I appreciate that you're having a tough time there.

Stay strong. You too Russell.

Could this be the next evolutionary phase of man???? Perhaps sometime soon we'll see the revision being replaced by ironing, the eating by cooking....

multi-tasking man evolves

So glad you have Linda and Jane there to be two more rocks in your rockery.
Spoke to Sheila last night and she gave me some more up-to-date news. I'm so thrilled for you and willing those kidneys to do their stuff.
My news seems like small fry and very inconsequential in the great scheme of things, but I thought you'd like to know that I was appointed permanent head of Tarland School on Wednesday. It's been a long haul but perseverance pays off in the end - I wore them down until they had to give me the job!

Dear Wonderwoman and Boywonder,

Glad to hear you're both fighting hard and Mo easing away slowly from the latest speed bump and the way to health...
As you can see there are hoardes of us out here willing you both on...

It must be like running the London Marathon in a full suit of armour... dragging a dragon behind you (now theres an idea for Russ for next year...though I think it's going to have to be those promised knitted underpants!) ... i.e. exhausting, extremely painful, and all you want to do is take the bl**dy thing off, have a pee and drink a gallon of cold water...

A little bit too much cold water from the skies this week...everything is now green - even in Braemar...though its more like 'May winds and May showers bring forth May daffodils'....

You're rarely out of my thoughts...
Big love from all of us...

Dear Mo and Russ
I am recovering from walking a marathon through London on Saturday night (The Platex Moonwalk for brake through Breast Cancer) - sorely tempted to make a detour and call in on Russ as I was passing. This was the 4th year doing the full marathon and with a bad case of shin-splints in my right leg it was hard work. Thinking of you, Moira, suffering and being so brave, made my discomfort pale into nothing. I kept wishing that somehow I could be taking a little of your pain and hoping you were having a better night instead!I completed the walk just after 6 a.m. Next year I am opting for the Sun walk marathon in Bristol instead. I am getting too old for all this staying up all night lark!!!
Keep checking night and morning for your news - you are in our thoughts all the time.
