Day + 58
@ Thursday, Jun. 15, 2006 - 09:56:14 pmWell here I am again!
I checked in to Kings on Wednesday morning with my darling sister Claire and Graham ,all the nurses were so pleased to see me - quite a feature here at Kings now. Anyway can't say I was that pleased, in fact I've been on quite a downer (Poor me). The 2nd result for Cmv was positive so I 'm having IV drugs to beat it - this is good - what isn't so good is the drug is toxic to the kidneys and bone marrow so not so good. Hence extra care for me and even more water to swallow (Pause for gulp!).
Tomorrow I have to have my 3rd hickman line inserted and you know how I feel about those -this has to be the last - and I am assured it will be a repairable one in case I go loopy again and break that one ( don't worry I won't).
So with russ away, feeling pretty unwell and with the hickman in store it's fair to say I've not been a happy bunny. However, 2nd day in I'm feeling a little better. Still feel s**t but I'm ok.
It won't be until about Tuesday that I get the results of the next CMV test so lets hope it's a miraculous negative, I've got my '56day' biopsy that day too so we need some good results all round.
Wish I could be more upbeat or have energy to write more but must try and get some sleep now, no other news without mentioning the F word.(Think metatarsal)Other than of course my toe nails need cutting - again. Yes I've been staring at my feet a lot! So hurry back Russell.
I Do have my lovely sister Jane visiting this weekend and also my tarty friend Sheila from Cairo popping in tomorrow so you see I have lots to look forward to, lots of laughs to come and lots of life to live.
Thanks for all your comments I can't tell you how great they make me feel.
Must away to bed
Love M

Gee Mo,why is everyone sooo mean to you?
Water torture followed by water deprivation...
They stick pins in you all the time...
They keep forcing you to have these dreadful hiccup lines
And Russell swans about on the beach in the sun...
And yet you don't let the b*ggers get you down...bravo! You are truely an inspiration!
Looking forward to the w/end...both boys off camping so TG and will go for a romatic mountian day together!!!! a rare treat. Hopefully Tom will take enough food for his group this time...His menu is tinned fruit cockail and water for brekkies with curry sauce and rice, apples and energy tablets for tea!!! umm almost as good as hospital food?
Take care my dear - you'll escape again soon...
Big love
Rxxxx

Hi Moira,
Just lie there and twiddle your toes (with long nails - maybe someone will paint them for you) for a little while but don't haul on the aptly named hiccup line; just turn the air blue every few minutes if you want to vent some frustration on it!
Sounds like your line up of visitors will keep you occupied, entertained and tended until Russell returns so hang in there.
We are thinking of you LOTS. A quick rain shower to water the garden here ready for the w/e. A is off to watch Tom play cricket tomorrow; I am busy at the local fair and with tennis; N is busy getting psyched up for some BP work experience next week - unauthorised by the Council as they need 12 weeks to assess the proposal! (and I gave them 1 week's notice) - he had better not fall down the stairs!
Lots of love & hugs to you all,
Fiona et al.

Moira,
Sorry to hear you are down in the dumps..Come back Russ all is forgiven.
Werngren has just been fighting a bird off in the dining room.
J is out on same camp out as young G's romping through the heather armed with Chocolate Weetos and beef jerky. What a diet for a 40k hike! I used to think this Duke of E stuff was all boys - but now I see its an excuse to go camping with the girls for a weekend and he is still under age! What else should we pack in the rucksac?
S just off to basket ball - far more innocant activity. That leaves me with dog walking for the day.
Lots of Love and ++++ve vibes to get you through the week O

Hi Moira
Really sorry to hear that you are back in hospital and I hope when you read this the hiccup line is done and it went 'OK' for you. So what is 'OK' about one of those???
I keep trying to think of beautiful words for you, but you know me .... didn't come up with much.... so when you have a few spare quiet moments .... (you know when you have sorted out which bubbles travel faster in your fizzy water.... don't tell me it is all still water.... NHS !) you may like http://www.mayyoubeblessedmovie.com and 'this is my heartfelt wish for you'.
Love and hugs

On dial up in deepest dordogne so a bit...slow! Phil went back today, realised he forgot his passport....duh....arrived at Bordeaux 30 mins before take off...stress! so hopefully will find another (passport) at home as off to Dubai, Bahrain & Bucharest before London next w'end.
Awoke this morning to find a labrador at home in my kitchen then kids went cycling off into the distance in pj's and bike hats - great to be back in the country again. I hope you are safely tucked up back at Claire's now and have made your escape again. Day by day....

Hi Moira,
No wonder you're feeling "a bit low". What an understatement! I'm sure you'd like to use a few more expletives at times to describe that hickman! Good luck with the test results tomorrow and get someone to organise a pedicure. I'd do it myself if I was near and we could have such fun painting each nail in a different style-not exactly elegant but cheery!
Alistair & I are just back from Prague. What a fabulous city. Nice food and great Jazz & Blues clubs. Security at Aberdeen airport didn't realise A had Tiernan's passport and let him through until we were about to board. So, a quick taxi ride home and several hours later we got away. Can't imagine how they thought Tiernan with his full head of hair looked anything like Alistair. Brendax

Hey Mo
Hope the tests were tip top...and the new hiccup is staying put and not too sore...
Fresh back from a few days down south...hobnobbing with the Ascot crowd in some posh pad...all rollers and Daimlers, top hats and fascinaters...and a few scruffy BP HR types...Had a few glasses of Cloudy Bay for you...yummy scrummy...and a few early morning jogs around the golf course...
Both boys survived DoE w/end...Ben off to India Sunday...just about got all his kit together...now he has to fit it in his v large rucksack...and carry it! I'll miss him.
Ho hum - back to work and a zillion e-mails...
Keep your pecker up girl...we're all rooting and tooting for you (despite your long toe nails).

Hey sis - thanks for great weekend - life's always so much better in the sunshine! Have really great pic of us with Claire but too complex to attach to this blog! Anyway, 1 week to our holiday and am juggling back to back meetings with those usual pre holiday chores like bikini and half leg wax (ouch!) (and none of that cheap stuff you girls get in Cairo this stuff actually costs an arm and a leg in the UK too!), hair cut, let last year's summer clothes out a bit (my how they shrink), cancel milk, set sky for House and Lost, clear bathrooms for decorators, bla bla bla bla can't wait to just be sitting back with the (ooh cloudy bay sounds nice rosy) - whatever Sav Blanc..... Will be so good to meet up with Claire in Florida ........ we'll have to find an internet cafe and blog from there ......... of course that will be between spa'ing and shopping! Don't forget to e mail me your shopping list. Ali and girls all well here and looking forward to seeing you in couple of weeks. Mum and Dad also well and enjoying Spain - I gather Dad just goes to bed and leaves them to it when the football comes on! Anyway, must go to bed, early start again tomorrow as pedicure at 4! Then off to Eagles (sigh!) in Glasgow with Claire on Friday - we are so looking forward to that - will definitely call you and share Hotel California! Lots of love, Jane xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Moira - I hope you are reading this out of hospital.
Have had a busy few days. Completed the Caledonian Challenge at weekend (54 miles of West Highland Way in 24 hrs). Suprised myself by coming in 171st place out of 1400+ by doing it in 19 hours - given that about 90% of the faster times were done by the other sex or under 40s I am feeling a wee bit chuffed. Lost about 5kg even with lots of drinking but it is returning fast! But it was nice to munch through chocolate at least for one day and not feel guilty. No blisters but my Achilles are a bit bruised and the midgies did finally get to me at 2am in the morning!! So it is open-backed sandals and trousers in the office this week.
Sean has arrived home from France in one piece with some interesting stories - so I now have a week of all 4 kids at home before Clare escapes for a mini-holiday to get a break from all the ironing!! She is a happy bunny today as she has heard that she has passed all her 1st year med exams - she was convinced she would have a resit - mind you I find it a bit worrying that she confused a leg bone with an arm bone....
Mid-summer today and yet it felt like October - hoping it will be a bit better at weekend as we have a bbq for Clare's birthday plus Eamon has 12 along for a sleepover/gathering which I was hoping would have them camping out in the garden (midges or no midges!)
Hugs and loads of love from us all......

Hey!!
Sorry to hear that you might have to head back in to hospital again - damn CMV. Good news you are over half way to 100 though. Went to EHA conferance in Amsterdam at weekend - many profs were there including all the ones Prof Mufti and Dr Ireland discussed you with. Felt like giving them an update but wimped out! Start at Kings on the 3rd July (hope you will have run for the hills by then). Am feeling a bit nervous about it all really - new place and all that, but should be jolly any how. At least some of the patients will be familiar faces! You are sounding more like QEH Moira at the moment which in my mind is a good sign. Good luck with the dreaded Hickman and bone marrow. Keeping everything crossed. Love to you and Russ XXXXXXX Emma XXXXXX
I am so sorry that this has taken so long to send, I had trouble with the computer and could not get on to it at all. I sent you a 'buccan' card instead so hope you were at home to read it and not in hospital waiting for the hickman. I am going away for a few days to a PGL camp with my primary school so will not be able to blog you until thursday. Love and kisses and huddles of cuddles Carry xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Darling Moira - the sun is actually shining here in Aberdeen today and already I have managed to get two loads of washing out. Thinking of you though today as you head back in for more treatment today - bit of a bugger (understatement!) - so unbelievable when I think back to last weekend and us having breakfast together in the sunshine with Claire. You would have been proud of us on Friday night at the Eagles in Glasgow - we sang our hearts out and it certainly kept the rain away. Great concert but we missed you and Fi heaps. Will wait and speak to Russ Monday night to see what's going on but I will do my damndest to make a flying visit sometime during my stopover at Gatwick Wed. night. Meanwhile, have booked mum to come down Wednesday and Thursday so she will bring lots of healing hugs for you. Fi sends her love - she called this morning and of course Claire is on the first stage of her holiday journey to Florida so she keeps checking in by txt. Must go now and clear out the bathrooms as the workmen start tomorrow - yippee - when I come back from hols the ensuite and d/stairs loo will be done and then only the bathroom to go (after trades fortnight of course - good old Aberdeen!). Huge hugs and so much love to you little one - big sis xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
