Dear Friends of Moira’s Blog,

I have some very sad news for you today. ….

After a fight lasting almost a year Moira died peacefully early this morning in the Derek Mitchell Unit at Kings College Hospital. Moira’s close family were able to make it to her bedside to say goodbye and be there for her.

In the end there were just too many complications for Moira’s weary body to battle at once and the Leukaemia had also returned with no realistic options for further treatment.

The comments and support, have all made a huge difference in keeping Moira me and the boys going and I know Moira would want me to thank you all for that. So thank you all for your love and support over the last year.

We go forward now with the power of love, family and friends in our hearts and will work to realise the future plans which we worked out together as a family.

We will start with the new house in Malvern and take it from there. We have a very special extended family and group of friends behind us as we do this, and so are bound to make the most of everything that lies ahead.

Thanks again for all the love and support.

My sincere and deepest sympathies.

Moira's struggle was both fascinating and distressing, and her courage throughout was an inspiration.

Wearily to her corner, signaled by the bell
The long fight is over, an end to her hell.

A torrid battle, 15 rounds of pain
And at the end of it not an ounce of gain?

"Wrong decision," her adoring crowd declare
Truth is , of this opponent we all must be aware.

Low punches all the while, every trick in the book
You think you have it covered then, WHACK, another hook.

Could have thrown the towel in at an earlier round
But, from deep inside an inner strength was found.

All that bloody effort then I go and die?!

Such precious moments we were privileged to share with Moira. We will miss her dearly and were so thankful that we were there as a family to help her on her way. Thanks to all the bloggers for such wonderful support to Mo, Russ and all of us - I'm sure our combined prayers, thoughts and virtual hugs have helped enormously.

Such an amazing girl! Heaven is so very lucky to have her -she will have arrived to a standing ovation for the truly tremendous battle she gave.

Moira has given so much of herself, inspiration, courage, humour and above all her love, she will never leave....

She battled so hard for so long because she didn't want to leave you, her beloved "boys". Now she is gone home, to rest and to be at peace.

Her life and friendship were a gift to us, we will miss her and treasure her memory always.

Russ,

You told me once, a long long time ago, that the most important part of us all, is our spirit - that part of us that makes us who we are and that lives on past our brief time on this earth. When I look up at the sky tonight I will say a prayer for the newest spirit to join the stars and to shine on us all. Moira will be with us always.

Russell, boys and the Stuart Family,

My sympathies and condolences at this difficult time. Moira was once of the most alive persons I have ever known. A person alive with the very essence of being. I feel thankful to have known her. You were truly priviledged to have her as a loving wife, mother and sister/daughter. Whilst am I sure she sits now proud in heaven, watching her "boys", she will live for many a year in our memories here on earth. I wish you all the very best.

Russell you've been a rock - no one could have given Mo more love, more care or more support over the last year - you really fought her corner in the way she wanted...and in the end you had to let her go...the hardest act of all.

Mo was and is a star and an inspiration. We'll all miss her so much.

Of all the gifts Moira gave to me, the one I hold most dear now is the small token with the angel on it, and the back inscription that reads "love". She is an angel, and the greatest thing is that we knew it while she was here with us on earth.

What an honor to know her as friend; what a joy to have her as wife, mother, daughter, sister.

I just got the news now, and am having a wee weep. I have good memories though, right back to the very beginning of your times together. We have spent too little time close, that being the nature of our lives and work, but what we had I treasure. I will miss Moira, her fun, her absolute love of her boys - all four of you.

I am working late as is all too often the case. This reminds me to keep life in perspective, to treasure every moment I have with those I love, and to make many more of those moments.

Russell, you will be strong I know. Give yourself time and space and then recommence the journey.

I'm so sorry to hear of Moira's passing. I have many happy memories of her from our school days. Also letters from when she went to college and the only way to communicate was by snail-mail. I'll always remember that hearty laugh and indomitable spirit
